Conformation

Prerequisite:  None

Conformation classes run 7:15 - 8:15 pm on Wednesdays. PLEASE DO NOT SHOW UP MORE THAN 10 MINUTES BEFORE CLASS IS TO START.  Any day's class doesn't run will be listed on Breaking Announcements.

Our goal is to teach you to be a great handler with the skills and knowledge to compete in the conformation ring from your first entry to Grand Champion.

Our classes teach you critical handling skills to bring out the best in your dog and you whether you choose showing in the AKC or UKC.  We begin with fundamentals and then refine your skills with constructive critique and suggesting areas for you to work on outside of class.

Classes will usually start with a standard run through similar to walking into a dog show.  This will be followed by additional run-throughs where critical handling skills will be tailored to you and your dog teaching what you need to know to make your dog a champion.

Class size varies every night.  We will try to limit the ring to 6-7 dogs at a time to allow people to train multiple dogs, take breaks. or leave as needed.

Special times can be arranged for larger numbers of the same breed in preparation for specialty events if requested.  Please call if you plan to bring in large groups of dogs. 507-344-1159

Proof of rabies vaccination needs to be presented for each dog.  Check in will be listed at the desk.

FEE: $15.00 per dog per night.

THIS IS AN ONGOING CLASS, PLEASE CHECK OUR CALENDAR.

Punch cards may be purchased: 5 classes for $75 or 10 classes for $150.00.

About Us

The Key City Kennel Club began out of obedience classes taught by Holly Sue Erwin and Pat Johnson.  They found a group of people in this area who were interested in starting a kennel club.  Holly Sue Erwin and Pat Johnson put on a fun match.  Out of the fun match, came the first organizational meeting with twenty people attending.  Of those twenty, two were officers in the Albert Lea Kennel Club.  Harold McMillen was selected the first chairman.  McMillen selected Vern Nere, John Bolton, and Pat Johnson to draw up the by-laws.  At first, the name of the club was the Mankato K-9 Club.  This first official meeting with the election of officers was held in April, 1967.  The first president of the club was John Bolton.  John Bolton, already a successful exhibitor, breeder, and president of the Italian Greyhound Club of America, provided much-needed experience and direction for the new club.  The new club had its first fun match in the fall of 1967.
